When Pixie Sticks Fail...

So lately I've been thinking... Caring for your skin should be like caring for a baby. You treat it with the utmost kindness and sensitivity, trying to maintain a happy balance as you deal with everything else life inevitably throws at you. Now I’m no mother myself, but I think it’s safe to say moms have an easier time when they feed their kids a handful of carrot sticks as opposed to a handful of pixie sticks, right? So it is with skin care! Today's average product is riddled with harsh acids, mineral oil and chemical preservatives. And while it may fool some with its synthetic fragrance and clever packaging (those pixie stick straws were fun, too...), they’re really not offering any true nutrition to create health. Compare that with Earthtonics products, which are designed with a reverence for the skin’s own ability to heal itself-- it regulates body temperature, excretes toxins, and guards from infection, among other things. It's Simpler Than You'd Think...

As Russ and I walked the lovely Sisar Trail the other day, we kept commenting "It's so Earthtonics up here!" Between the trickling stream, the fertile earth & the overgrowth of plants just RADIATING lifeforce & healing potential, it was tempting not to pop a squat right then and there and get to formulating! But more than anything, that afternoon made me realize how grateful I am to have the knowledge I've gained through my research into herbs and healthy skin care. Looking back, I can't believe some of the synthetic nastiness I put on my face! As I looked around, my philosophy about creating radiance & beauty solidified: Everyone's natural and inherent state is that of beauty and health. When we experience moments of sub-optimal health in the skin (whether it be a sallow complexion, pimples, dehydration) we must simply help ourselves restore balance by creating a nurturing atmosphere for the skin to HEAL ITSELF. For too long I struggled with my own skin, fighting like a warrior to get it to clear up, slathering it with destructive chemicals and acids to dry out pimples. I didn't care what was in my products as long as they worked, damnit! My big revelation came when I read about the incredible reparative effects of olive oil on the skin. For a month, I did nothing but wash my face with organic extra virgin olive oil. (YES, oil DOES cleanse the skin. High quality organic oil is actually the gentlest, most thorough way to cleanse because it loosens debris, softens, and leaves behind a reparative, nutritive shield to protect the skin.) Anyway, product whore that I am, it was difficult not to having my nightly ritual of a bajillion different products. However, I quickly got over that when I saw what a difference my zen-like approach made in my complexion. So what's the bottom line? THE SKIN HEALS ITSELF. (Don't let any miracle-cream salesman tell you different.) Earthtonics is the culmination of herbal wisdom, plant lore, and our modern ability to source the best organic and wild-crafted ingredients available, so that we can all create an atmosphere where our skin can maintain balance & heal itself.

Hello gorgeous people! We are so excited to introduce the blog portion of our website! We want to keep you updated on all things Earthtonics: events, new products in development, special sales and giveaways...not to mention tips, tricks and my very favorite homemade products revealed! What's been happening lately, you might ask? Well, we've been pretty busy over here. Last Sunday we made our Ojai Farmer's Market debut and met a ton of wonderful people who understand what we're all about- pure, organic ingredients and products that work! Visit us next time (August 9th) at our booth. :) I met the lovely owners of Busy Babe's Beauty Supply and will soon be offering our products through their delightful downtown Ojai storefront.
